The Reservist is twice the citizen – Winston Churchill
Since 1923, tens of thousands of men and women have been able to combine their life as citizens with that of naval reservists. Often, they have had to leave the tranquility of their homes and put their lives in danger in order to help, rescue and fight, so that we can live in peace, sheltered from the ups and downs of the climate or human nature. It is possible to find real heroes among them.
Discover a story filled with intriguing characters, heroic adventures and ships with shapes lost in the waves and spray of the past.
Their story is also yours.
A permanent exhibition coming soon!
The Quebec Naval Museum is currently working to develop its future permanent exhibition. This will invite you to discover the “citizen sailors”, the nickname given to Canada’s naval reservists. As the official museum of the Naval Reserve, the Naval Museum wishes to introduce visitors to the history and little-known role played by “Citizen Sailors” in Canadian society.
More specifically, this exhibition focuses on the notion of “identity” of sailors: Who are they, and what role did they play in the great history? Our goal is to help you discover this story and why it is still relevant today.
